>> and now, "bbc world news." >> iran's president warns anti- government protests are no -- are going nowhere. washington pledges more money to protect internet freedom. standing trial, silvio berlusconi will appear in court over allegations he paid for sex with a 17-year-old. welcome to "bbc world news." coming up, the olympic organizers have the event scheduled for the london games in 2012. the biggest night of the year for the british music industry.

>> iran's president has said the apposition protest scene in his country are going nowhere. he vowed to punish the organizers. mahmoud ahmadinejad said enemies were trying to tarnish the iranian nations brilliance. conservative members of the parliament -- to liviu members will be sentenced to death. our correspondent reports from london. >> one day after opposition demonstrators gathered its was the turn to iran to get together. they unleashed a statement blaming the opposition leader for what they mp's call an act of sedition. and number chanted god is great

and debt to mousavi. more pictures of monday's protests are coming out. this appears to show a burst of teargas. protesters run away covering their faces. the u.s. government says they should be allowed to demonstrate in peace. >> it is clear iran has and a niece -- has enemies. there is a lot of animosity against the government. the protesters will not achieve their goals. >> monday's demonstrations were the biggest protests since 2009. reports say some opposition members want to continue protesting. security forces may be out to stop them. >> the u.s. has urged

[unintelligible] to exercise restraint following anti-government protests by demonstrators. the police used tear gas and live rounds. the roundabout has become the focus of the unrest. some are calling a landmark tahrir after the square in cairo. >> in the tiny gulf kingdom of bahrain, protesters came out in the thousands. they are demanding more jobs and the release of political prisoners. to be people have died. this man was killed yesterday in classes. teargas and shots were fired at protesters in response to a peaceful protest.

>> i saw that the police were shouting. he got a shotgun in his back. >> the kaine promised to investigate the deaths -- the king promised to investigate the deaths. >> as we say, reform is continuing and will not stop. we opened up all doors to freedom and responsibility out of love and respect for our people. >> but with the word of future protests spreading around the region, today's demonstration is unlikely to be the last.

>> washington announced it is giving $25 million to help dissidents get around the impression -- oppression of the internet. hillary clinton said social networking sites were important tools for people's aspirations. egypt's attempt to stifle protests was unsuccessful. >> it may have been people rather than the internet that toppled leaders in egypt but it is hard to even sit -- hard to imagine even as happening there faster without facebook and twitter. this is why cyber freedom will be at the center of foreign policy. >> our commitment to internet freedom is a commitment to the rights of people. >> that adds up to a $25 million

u.s. government order to disclose details of private twitter accounts of wikileaks supporters. secretary clinton does not see this as a contradiction. >> the wikileaks incident began with an act of theft. government documents were stolen just the same as if they had been smuggled out. >> internet freedom may have been a central message but the u.s. is struggling to apply that to wikileaks. >> authorities are saying 200 people were killed in clashes with rebels last week. officials and aid workers say most of the dead are civilians. many drowned as they tried to cross a river. south african demonstrators have clashed with police in an eastern province in the second day of protests.

protesters threw bombs and blow up tires. jacob zuma promise to improve measures such as electricity. >> protesters threw fireworks at police and at least 12 cities. a judge-italy has ordered the prime minister silvio berlusconi to stand trial of charges he paid for sex with an underage dancer and abused his office. he has dismissed the british -- the accusations as groundless and describe this as a plot to remove him from power. our correspondent reports. >> there is now a date in the

diary for silvio berlusconi. he will stand trial for having sex with an underage prostitutes. today he wanted to give the impression he was still an effective leader. he was focusing on the vote in tunisia that brought 5000 migrants to an italian island. this is a huge crisis. silvio berlusconi was visiting a potential reception center for migrants while it was announced he would be facing three female judges. the case centers on a young woman named ruby. and she was 17 he attended -- she attended one of his parties. he is accused of intervening to help her when she was investigated for theft. she has denied any sexual contact.

his lawyer pointed that out again. >> i think it is really difficult to think of an underage prostitutes with that woman denies sexual contact and having been paid. >> the parade of showgirls and escorts who has attended his party has damaged his poll numbers. thousands of women took to the streets offended as the berlusconi culture where success is increasingly tied to looks. many say they are ashamed, but shame is unlikely to force berlusconi to step down. >> there is no legal obligation he has to resign. berlusconi has shown himself to be the resigning [unintelligible] he is a fighter. he has survived many other accusations of indictments. >> the prime minister was denied

silvio berlusconi has been ordered to stand trial on charges he paid to have sex with a 17-year-old. food prices are at dangerous levels and have pushed 44 million people into poverty. the rapid increases have hit the poor particularly hard. it will be on the meeting wendy g-20 meet on wednesday. >> in the valleys of the andes, echoes of protests being heard around the world. they signed -- a sign of the price of rising food. here in bolivia, sugar prices have doubled. many other basic foods have risen by 40%. >> the people are dying of

alleging the italian police abused their daughter while interrogating her after the killing of meredith kercher. in all the talk about smart phones one of the pioneers -- research in motion putting the latest figures in terms of market share. but they have dismissed suggestions their devices are no longer a major player in the rates. we have a report from the mobile conference in barcelona. >> it is easy to forget about blackberry. they have moved beyond business customers. but last week when nokia and microsoft got together, they talked about smart funds becoming a strength.
